Call for Applications
We invite faculty members, research scientists, and post-doctoral fellows at universities worldwide to apply for unrestricted gifts that support research in Blockchain, Exchange, Blockchain Ecosystem and related fields. Only one proposal can be submitted by each application during each cycle, but the applicant can serve as a co-PI (Principal Investigator) on other proposals.
Applications should be submitted to oceanlabs@bitocean.org in PDF format. We prefer a single file containing all materials, named with the applicant's last name and first name. Please note that the Research Awards Program does not accept any proposal that contains confidential or proprietary information.
Applications must be submitted by June 30th, 2019. The deadline is at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. The funding decisions will be notified by July 31, 2019.
A Good Research Grant Proposal Should:
Clearly specify a problem. A great problem drives good research, and a good proposal starts with a clear specific one.
Describe a specific, credible, and relevant result. Try to identify a specific and appropriately sized result by giving us a clear understanding of what the research awards would be enabling. What will likely to happen, or not otherwise? While this result should be a decisive step towards achieving your vision, it generally won't be adequate to achieve it all. It often helps to describe both the minimum that is likely to be accomplished and a potential best-case scenario. Since picking the right datasets and test cases is often important, tell us which ones you plan to use.
Clearly distinguish between the proposed contribution and previous work. Please use common practices (quotations, etc.) to document how your work will significantly improve the state of the art. Be clear on how your work will change the existing technology, rather than simply trying to match it.
Be solution-oriented and tell us how you plan to solve the challenges. Successful research projects present a major issue and potential solutions. While we are aware that all the answers are still unknown, we would like to see your thought process on the direction and a plausible path you might take in seeking such answers. (avoid using languages like "we want to see problem X" in the proposal.) Please identify the foreseeable difficulties and how you plan to mitigate them. It may help explain how you can successfully solve similar problems in other projects.
Put the proposed work in context. To help us understand the expected impact of our financial support, please indicate the funds you have dedicated to this research area and the relationship between the proposed work and your existing program. Do you plan to build the capacity of other research, provide tools, reproduce previous results, work with others to try something out, follow up with promising ideas, or explore new ideas? All of these are meaningful, and we would love to know.
Use layman’s terms. While we do our best to have your proposal reviewed by a specialist in your field, non-experts will review it as well. Please fully express your motivations and results.
Supporting Cutting-edge Research
Recipients will be selected through an internal review process and their rewards will be notified by the notification date above. Faculty members can apply to cover expenses for the amount of money needed to support one graduate student for one year. We ask applicants to classify their proposals into one of the following research areas of interest to OceanEx:
- Trading behavior analysis algorithms
- Outlier detection algorithms from real-time streaming data.
- Wallet management algorithms and theories that improve asset security.
- Cluster resource management and optimization algorithms.
- Data visualization on trading data streams.
- Machine learning algorithms for risk management.
- Blockchain technology and decentralized exchange systems (DEX)
- Security, privacy and trust of blockchain and distributed ledger technology
- Novel blockchain applications (including but not limited to edge and cloud computing, crowdsourcing and crowdsensing, and connected and autonomous vehicles).
